The Map
Welcome to the EBHP map! This map shows all the monuments and memorials mapped in the city of Edinburgh so far. The map uses the Google Maps platform, which many of our users will be familiar with.

Click and drag with your cursor to navigate the frame.
Use the zoom buttons in the lower lefthand corner to change the map’s scale.

Click on the arrow box in the upper lefthand corner of the screen to pull up the layer toolbar. Here, you can control which layers of the map are shown. Play around with layers to compare numbers, locations, and densities. Layers currently available include:

Monuments and Memorials to Men (blue)
Monuments and Memorials to Animals (brown)
Plaques Dedicated to Women (fuschia)
Plaques Dedicated to Men (blue) — work in progress
Collective Monuments, Memorials, and Plaques (black)
Travel Channel’s “19 Must See Spots in Edinburgh” 2018 (green)
Frommer’s “Things to See in Edinburgh” 2018 (purple)
Fodor’s “Best of Edinburgh and the Lothians” 2018 (teal)
TimeOut “20 Great Things to Do in Edinburgh” 2018 (orange)
Take note of the icons used for each monument as well. Those using a male, female, or paw print icon depict their subject with a direct physical likeness. The more general monument, equestrian, or cross icon indicates an allegorical or abstract representation.
To open and interact with the map in a larger format, click the full screen button in the upper righthand corner of the map. You will be directed to the Google website where you will have full access to the map with all the same controls.
